Under the new Labour government it was announced today that new laws about stalking are being dicsussed and implemented.
The new laws stem from Claire Waxman - who is the Victim's Commissioner for London.
Claire was stalked herself some years ago which continued for over 20 years without real solutions. She has talked with many other's advocating for victims of stalking, including the Suzy Lamplugh Trust.
Suzy was an estate agent, stalked with no help provided despite complaints to the police. She was going to work to show a property to a potential client, never seen again and her body was never found. Similar to "Claire's Law" - the families of these types of crimes have been fighting and lobbying for better laws.
Claire Waxman intends to provide a voice to victims, review the current laws on stalking, providing a victims care hub and safe places for victims to go to in emergency and stalking protection orders.
As with Claire's law - knowing the names of suspects and of any past criminal activity - can be helpful and life saving - so Claire Waxman is also going to change laws so that victims can be told the names of perpetrators - as current laws state victims may not know their names even after they have been arrested.
This type of stalking is not exactly the same as what TI's may experience, as the gang stalking is apparently much more organised and coordinated by large groups working together, but it still has the same basic principle and impact on us. Anyone contacting the government, police or victims groups about their stalking may want to not refer to it as - GANG STALKING - and consider if you do not have any evidence to support being stalked to be careful.
We suggest this only as judging from the past often TI's are referred to mental health services - even with evidence - and no matter what new laws may be passed - authorities still may hold no power over such crimes without evidence.
